To prove you weren’t at fault in an accident. If you are on a drive and get into an accident, Uber/Lyft’s insurance kicks in. If you are at fault, you need to pay the deductible. If someone else is at fault, they get to foot the bill. And your medical bills.

To be able to prove something like this happened (UberPeople.net). There are some bad people out there, and if they do something bad in your car, they should be held accountable.
While we are at it, how about if someone throws up in your car? Pictures help, but a video will seal the deal. One cleaning fee for vomit will pay for your dashcam twice over.
Lastly, you can review your day. You can see where you could have done better. This can be when you were talking too much and the customer is just nodding their head. Or that time you were driving poorly, and you can actually see the customer starting to get sick. No matter that, seeing how you are performing as both a driver and service provider will only make you better.
As always, if you are ever involved in any incident, report it to Uber/Lyft immediately. You want to get ahead of the report, so your side of the story is considered.
